Coordinated blackberry control efforts have started
in Gippsland’s prime
dairy region.

The Wellington District Blackberry Taskforce signed another 22 private landholders to voluntary blackberry management
agreements this year.

It’s now supporting over 40 landholders in its local area to reduce and eradicate blackberry from their properties.

The Taskforce focuses its activities on the important Macalister Irrigation District and this year it particularly targeted private landowners in the Upper Maffra region.

The Taskforce enjoys strong community awareness and support and its project officer visited 77 properties this year to help landowners work together and eradicate blackberry across the local landscape.

Its successful partnerships also continued, with Southern Rural Water and Wellington Shire Council spraying blackberry along water channels and drains and local roads during the year.
